Sketch #101
10 May 2009Some kind of small project I’ve been drawing whenever I got an inspiration for next frame. Originally I just drew these two first frames as a separate doodles, when I thought that the smaller girl could be afraid of that shack. After that it’s just stream of conciousness, I have not planned the story at all, just drawing what comes in mind. I’m curious where this ends up.. if it does end at all.
I’m in Lapinjärvi this month, doing my civilian service. I should have lots of time to draw because I’ll be travelling by train alot on weekends and there’s nothing but freetime in Lapinjärvi.
The story can be found in my Google Picasa album.

Sketch #100!
3 April 2009Some kind of checkpoint I guess. Thanks for everyone reading this blog. Although there are only 10-20 daily visitors and some bumps of 0’s and 50’s, I’m guessing there might be at least few regular readers too. My guess is that the way I title my posts isn’t attracting, but I’m not going to change it since this blog still exists mostly for my own motivation. I’m fairly sure that without this blog and occasional motivating comments and view-bumps, I would never had drawn this much.
Yes, I bought the over hyped Moleskine, I just had to see what’s so good about them :D
Frankly, now I realized that you really can’t imagine unless you try, it indeed is an excellent notebook. I’m only halfway through my current sketchbook, but I don’t want to draw on it anymore, I just feel the urge to sketch only on my moleskine. Can’t explain it, you must test it out yourself. The sketchbook model has quality paper, this useful first page for personal info and reward(I really love it and want it back, so just something to motivate returning if someone finds it), some kind of hidden pocket on the last page, bookmark ribbon, rounded corners, comfortable covers and strap. It’s the Bentley of sketchbooks. 13€ (and 10% student discount) in Rakennustieto, Oulu. About 16€ in Akateeminen Kirjakauppa if I remember right.
The pen I’m using is Faber-Castell PITT artist brush pen. As you can see in a pic below, at first I used some kind of basic gel ball point, which smudged like hell, so I drew the rest on pencils. The first page however is with the F-C. You should stick with brand pens like Faber-Castell, Parker, Pilot which are actually quite affordable. Quality pen isn’t necessarily (read: never) expensive. Parker has some 40€-200€ pens but they are no better than the 2€ pens.
I recommend the Faber-Castell PITT artist brush pen B, which you can see here, the last one on the bottom. It says $29.99 but mine was 2,50€ in Akateeminen Kirjakauppa.
I don’t really have a beard like that nor do I want one either.. :<
