Evil Memories, oil painting process

I’m so tired, and ashamed of myself for not having drawn anything lately. Aside from those dozens of works I make in work of course. However this I made last weekend for a certain contest in DeviantArt. I had to use traditional methods because my tablet doesn’t work in Vista and I suck at mouse.

I’m trying out this Windows Live Writer, of all desktop blog software I looked into this seemed the most promising, even though being Microsoft. If anyone can recommend a better software I’d be very grateful.

I’m not sure if this interprets the song Kirjeitä Paratiisista by CMX perfectly.. but it’s this feeling I got from these particular lines in the chorus:

Kaita polku paratiisiin kulkee läpi painajaisten
Hirviöitten, kummajaisten, kauppasaksavainolaisten

Narrow path to paradise runs through the nightmares.
Monsters, freaks, hounding hucksters

well.. that last word is bad translation.. “kauppasaksa” is very very old word meaning a travelling merchant.Vainolainen is old word too, it means some enemy faction which hounds and attacks the friendly faction. Soviets were “vainolainen” for Finland in WW2 in some “vainolais”-stories. Usually their evilness is greatly exaggerated in these stories. However, these words combined.. it doesn’t exist in Finnish language either so it’s pretty hard to translate. And huckster.. just sounded better than hawker and peddler and is equally old expression :D But hopefully you get the idea..

Animation WIP

I sketched a background music today.. melancholic doom metal something… have to program drums still. 

About 1/10 of the backgrounds ready now. I guess you should be able to see the setting of  the “story” from this piece. It’s one helluva gif so this might be my last update until it’s ready. It seems this wordpress doesn’t support .swf.

I’m doing a little animation work so I don’t have time to make any additional sketches. Instead I might upload these progress pics. Now I have the character mostly animated, without the ending scene though. I think I got the walking quite correct.. being my second try ever.
